Working with files

The file browser

Panes, tabs, filtering, Get Info and permissions, moving and duplicating.

Two panes

Each pane shows one location: your computer or a server. Click a pane to make it the focused pane (it has a thin orange line along the top); clicking a server in the sidebar opens it there. Both panes can show servers, for direct server-to-server copies.

Tabs

Right-click a folder and choose Open in New Tab, or press ⌘T to open the current location again in a new tab. Tabs keep their own folder, history and selection. ⌘W closes a tab, ⌘⇧] and ⌘⇧[ (or Ctrl+Tab) switch between them, and middle-clicking a tab closes it.

Finding files

  • Click a column header to sort by name, size or date; click again to reverse.
  • ⌘F filters the current folder as you type. Esc closes the filter.
  • The eye button (or ⌘⇧.) shows or hides hidden files.
  • Type a path into the path field to jump there. ~ is your home folder on the server.

Selecting

Click to select, Shift-click for a range, ⌘-click (Ctrl-click) to add or remove items, ⌘A for everything. Arrow keys move the selection, Enter opens.

Right-click menu

On files and folders: Open, Open in New Tab, send to the other pane, Get Info, Rename, Duplicate, Copy Path, Copy Share Link (S3) and Delete. On empty space: New Folder, New File, Filter, Show Hidden Files, Refresh and Copy Folder Path.

Get Info and permissions

⌘I shows a file’s kind, full path, exact size, modification date, owner and group. On servers that support permissions (SFTP, FTP, and your own computer on macOS and Linux), you can change them with checkboxes or an octal value like 644, for one item or for a whole selection at once.

Moving, copying, duplicating

  • Drag within the same pane or server to move items into a folder. Hold Option/Alt while dropping to copy instead.
  • Drag to the other pane to copy.
  • Duplicate (⌘D) makes a copy next to the original, named like report 2.pdf. On S3, WebDAV and your own computer the copy happens on the server.

BlazeSCP never moves a folder into itself and won’t overwrite an existing item when moving.
